Construction sites safer thanks to Capestone’s IoT solution

Securing various industrial properties has long been a problem for owners. Today there are plenty of options, but which one should you choose? Surveillance of a property 24 hours a day by guards is quite costly and inefficient. Using up-to-date technology allows multiple areas to be monitored simultaneously and records what has happened in a later review. On the other hand, setting up and managing complicated CCTV (closed circuit TV) camera-controlled systems can be just as costly and produce disappointing results if carried out without the necessary expertise. To understand and choose the best security option, one must be experienced and understand how the mind of burglars works. Therefore, it is often best to trust specialists in this field who will take care of the structure of the solution and prevent unforeseen problems along the way.

”The IoT solution enables us not to have to go to the mast but to be able to control everything remotely. At Capestone we found the total solution in combination with the hardware of Teltonika that we can deploy internationally. It’s nice to find a party that has expertise on two fronts”.

Business challenge

Our partner SBT Europe BV is specialized in providing temporary security cameras, camera surveillance and intrusion prevention. SBT Europe found that camera surveillance in infrastructure projects did not work effectively outside of working hours, mainly due to the poor quality of the images and poor follow-up. As a solution for their customers, they were looking for a smart total package, based on the latest technology and secure connectivity equipment combined with remote management.

Only a stable and uninterrupted connection with a backup option, provides the ability to record and store crystal clear visual images. While remote management allows for real-time knowledge of what is happening at what location and quick and easy resolution of minor technical problems.

Solution

SBT Europe BV found the solution to its connectivity problem at Capestone. A complete IoT solution that guarantees continuity of connection at any location and at any time due to the mobile nature of the business. The combination of connectivity with Teltonika Networks LTE Cat 4 RUT955 routers met all requirements for a number of reasons;

The ability to use two SIM cards provides a backup in case the primary connection is lost. This feature is crucial in remote locations with limited communication options. It is often the case for construction sites, solar parks and other industrial sites. Multiple digital and analog inputs and outputs in the RUT955 make it easy to connect all equipment. Usually there is more than one mast on the site. Therefore, the time resources required for the installation process make a difference.

Another requirement was that each mast had its IP address in order to reach each of them individually securely via VPN IP Sec. In addition, having unique IP addresses with the location makes it possible to keep track of where the masts are in the internal SBT system. Finally, there is an alarm modem in each mast that is connected to the alarm center. With this IoT solution, small problems can be solved remotely without having to travel to the mast.

SBT Europe BV now offers its customers a solution that provides the mast with track and trace, approach alarm, access control and security cameras. Offering a complete IoT product, reduces the chance of internet security or downtime issues. It also unifies the management of the solution across sites. A lot easier and more efficient. The ability to manage the solution remotely allows time to be spent on other essential business needs.

SBT Europe BV biCTO SBT Europe Wietse de Vries; “It is never safe enough. A hundred percent guarantee that hackers can’t get through doesn’t exist. We wanted to be able to control this remotely. At the same time we can link the unique IP address to the location to keep track of where the masts are in our system. Finally, in the mast there is an alarm modem, which is connected to the alarm center. This IoT solution allows us to not have to go to the mast but be able to control it remotely.
