In 2019, the newest WiFi standard was introduced: WiFi 6 (also known as 802.11ax). What 5G is to mobile internet, WiFi 6 is to fixed internet. With this new variant, you achieve higher speeds for multiple devices simultaneously, there are fewer delays, you have better security and WiFi coverage. We would like to explain to you what WiFi 6 entails, the advantages it has over WiFi 5 and which applications are made possible by WiFi 6. Furthermore we offer you an overview of all WiFi 6 devices from the Capestone portfolio.
The difference between WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 is huge, on many levels. WiFi 6 has a number of technical improvements over WiFi 5. The biggest difference is the ability to efficiently control multiple devices. This is made possible by the following two technologies: MU-MIMO and OFDMA.
MU-MIMO stands for “multi-user, multiple input, multiple output. You can compare this to a fleet of delivery vans. With Wifi 6, you don’t have one delivery van driving back and forth to deliver packets of data, but eight. The other technology, OFDMA, ensures that the bus does not have to go back to the distribution center (the router) all the time, but if it still has space after the first delivery, it can go directly to a second address. And that’s why it can operate much faster than WiFi 5. WiFi 6 uses MU-MIMO by default to serve multiple users in a network simultaneously. WiFi 6 routers apply this technique to both uploading and downloading, which makes the connection of these routers a lot faster.

What is the difference between the 5G frequency bands?
For mobile networks, low frequency bands such as the 700MHz and 1400Mhz have a greater range than the mid-band frequencies of 3.5GHz and the higher frequency bands such as the 26GHz. In contrast, the higher frequency bands offer the advantage of greater capacity and bandwidth than the low frequency bands.
What does Wireless Wan mean?
Wireless Wan means providing Internet access through a wireless network or a mobile hotspot
