The Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability enables easy installation of wireless access points and IP phones in the network. Switches with PoE thus automatically detect and supply power to all IEEE 802.3af/at compatible Powered Devices. In this situation, the electrical power is transmitted along with the data over a single cable, so the network can be extended to places where there are no power lines or power outlets.
